Maria Guadalupe Gurule's Family Tree

This is the family tree for Maria Guadalupe Gurule, wife of Juan Domingo Salazar. Note that her great grandfather is Santiago Gurule aka Jacques Grolet of the ill fated La Salle expedition. I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the parentage of Maria Petra Montoya.

SELPH Wedding Photograph

Left to right: Tomas Montoya, Eliza Montoya, Lillie (Selph) Montoya, Jose Leandro Montoya, Carolina (Sandoval) Selph, and Iley Nunn Selph in Ranchos de Taos, NM

This wedding picture of Lillie Selph and Jose Leandro Montoya was taken at the home of the bride's parents, Carolina (Sandoval) and Iley N. Selph of Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico in the 1920s. They are standing on the east side of the house. The big window full of geraniums on the left is the eastern facing window for the kitchen, and the window on the right is the eastern facing window for the two front rooms of the house. In later years, these rooms were empty. They were then used by various family members who returned to the family home to live or were rented out. Beneath their feet is a brown and white striped rug that was kept in Carolina and Iley's bedroom. It was brought out and used whenever Carolina wanted to protect the family's finery.

DIEGO ANTONIO SANDOVAL and MARIA EULOGIA SALAZAR

© Kathy Duncan, 2012

Diego Antonio Sandoval, according to his marriage record, was the son of Rafael Sandoval and Polonia Fresquis. According to the 1850 Taos Co., NM census, he was born in Rio Arriba Co., NM. The 1816 census places his father’s family in Embudo of the San Juan Parish in present-day Rio Aribba Co, which matches both Diego Antonio Sandoval’s census statement and marriage record. This would seem to indicate that he was likely born in the San Juan Parish area in 1815 since he is one year old on that census.  He married Maria Eulogia Salazar on  27 Feb 1843 in Taos Co., NM. She was the daughter of Pedro Salazar and Maria Trinidad Valdez.

Parentage of Diego Antonio Sandoval:
