CAPT. JUAN MONTES VIGIL and ANTONIA NICOLASA LUJAN

    Capt. Juan Montes Vigil is believed to be the son of Francisco Montes Vigil and Maria Jimenez De Ancizo. They were colonists from Zacatecas. In Santa Fe in 1696, Francisco Montes Vigil said he was a native of El Real de Zacatecas and 30 years old. In 1710 he received a land grant at Alameda but sold it two years later. His known children were Maria, wife of Martin Romero and mother of Antonio Romero, Gertrudis; Elena; Domingo, who married Maria Estela Marquez; Francisco, who married 1.) Antonia Jiron and 2.) Lorenza Medina; Manuel, who married Manuela Sanchez; Juan, who married 1.) Ynes Lopez and 2.) Nicolasa Lujan; and probably Pedro, who married Juana Trujillo.
    Francisco Montes Vigil died 11 Sep 1731 in Santa Cruz de la Canada, Rio Arriba, NM, and Maria Jimenez De Ancizo died 19 Sep 1745 in Santa Cruz de la Canada.

Capt. Juan Montes Vigil married Antonia Nicolasa Lujan in Santa Fe., NM on 16 May 1745.

On 13 November 1754, Juan Montes Vigil received a grant of land bounded "on the north, the lands of the Pueblo of Cochiti; on the east, the hills; on the south, the lands of the Pueblo of Santo Domingo; and on the west, the Rio Grande.

Death of Capt. Juan Montes Vigil:

Capt Juan Montes Vigil left a will in Santa Fe dated 30 April 1762. One of the provisions of his will left 100 breeding ewes to the church for 100 masses for his soul along with 20 jugs of wine for whichever priest would say masses for his soul.
