The baptism above is important because it provides Pedo Salazar's full name: Pedro Miguel Salazar. This is important in linking him to his father.

The baptism above provides the best possible clue to the parentage of both Pedro Salazar and his wife Maria de la Trinidad Valdes. If Cristobal Salazar is Pedro's brother, then Domingo Salazar and Maria Gertrudis Gurule are also Pedro's parents. If Maria Barbara Valdes is Trinidad Valdes's sister, then Juan Bautista Valdes and Anna Maria Archuleta are also Trinidad's parents.

[Notation - This reference to Juan Antonio Garcia de Noriega precedes the baptisms of his children in 1785 by seven years and may be from the time period before his marriage to Josefa Torres. This possibility is strengthened by the marriage of Juan Antonio Garcia and Maria Josefa Torres‘s daughter Maria Gabriela Garcia in the Church of Santa Thomas de Albiquiu in 1816, indicating that they were residents of the region during that time period.--kdd]

In 1695 a Pedro Madrid of El Paso del Norte testified that he had illicit relations with Antonia Lopez and that he was the first cousin of Cristobal de Gamboa. Antonia Lopez and Cristobal de Gamboa married in 1695 anyway.

DIEGO ANTONIO SANDOVAL and MARIA EULOGIA SALAZAR

© Kathy Duncan, 2012

Diego Antonio Sandoval, according to his marriage record, was the son of Rafael Sandoval and Polonia Fresquis. According to the 1850 Taos Co., NM census, he was born in Rio Arriba Co., NM. The 1816 census places his father’s family in Embudo of the San Juan Parish in present-day Rio Aribba Co, which matches both Diego Antonio Sandoval’s census statement and marriage record. This would seem to indicate that he was likely born in the San Juan Parish area in 1815 since he is one year old on that census.  He married Maria Eulogia Salazar on  27 Feb 1843 in Taos Co., NM. She was the daughter of Pedro Salazar and Maria Trinidad Valdez.

Parentage of Diego Antonio Sandoval:
