  1. I am very interested in Mary Emma Barber, as 1) I descend from Leroy W Lain by another wife, and 2) I descend from a line of Barbers who also intermarried with people from Barbour County, Alabama, and 3) I descend from John McDonald of Jefferson County, Georgia who has some kind of a connection to Joseph, Samuel, William and Aaron Barber of Burke and Jefferson Counties, Georgia who are also some way related to Thomas Street. My maternal line of Barbers were from Bertie County, North Carolina, and moved into Georgia, Houston, Pulaski and other counties. I feel my maternal line and the Burke and Jefferson Counties GA line may be the same line. Rachel McDonald Albritton's daughter Mary Ann Albritton James moved to Barbour County, Alabama before moving to Rapides Parish, Louisiana, then on into Texas. soquili61@gmail.com

    1. Well, this is interesting on several levels. Do you descend from Leroy W. Lain's wife Rhody? I am interested in the repetition of the named Joseph and Samuel in the Georgia Barbers. What I have on my Joseph Barber is on his blog post. Mary Emma (Barber) Brown Lain was my great-grandmother. I am a Brown descendant.

    2. Lisa - I will email you this evening or tomorrow. Something to think about in the meantime: I have been very interested in the Lains because there is a lot of intermarrying into my Brown family. Mary Emma Barber's son Thomas Jefferson Brown had a Lain for a mother-in-law. She was Alice Lain who married Jess Smith. Then Mary Emma Barber's daughter Lenora H. Brown married John W. Lane. Could it be possible that these Lains are NOT related to each other? It does not seem likely.

    1. Yikes! I've been intending to add information about Lenora Brown, but I see that I have not. I have added sources for her on Family Search, though. It is possible that I am related to her Chapman husband, but I don't know who he was. I have their son was W. Erastus Chapman who died in 1910 and is buried at Cuthand in Red River Co., TX. He married R. Eddie Thomason. They had a daughter Florene. Lenora's second husband was John W. Lane. They had three children: John Oscar Lane, Durwood Andrew Lane, and Annie Lane. Leonara (Brown) Chapman Lane died in 1932 and is buried in Ft. Worth, Texas.
